School of Discipleship

“... to make a ready people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1:17

Matthew 28:18-20

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

In commissioning his disciples Jesus gave clear instruction: “Go and make disciples”. Over the centuries the church has both attempted (with some success) and neglected (with greater success) to follow this command. Jesus called many to follow Him; learn of Him; and be His disciple.

The requirements for this are uncomplicated and straight forward. In Luke 9:23-24 we read, “then He said to all, if anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.”

The greatest hindrance to being a true disciple of Jesus Christ is not your boss, spouses, parents, government, etc., rather it is “self”. That part that is near and dear to us all, is identified by the personal pronouns of I; me; mine;myself. This is the part that Jesus says must be denied and die if we are going to have any hope of following Him and be His disciples. Ironically this “self life” is what much of the church is appealing to as: self-help, self-relations, self-accusation, self-esteem. These types of classes and messages are unfortunately flooding the church.

One can only make and teach others to be a disciple of Jesus when they are one themselves. Much of the focus of this school is dedicated to teaching what it is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
